Seasons and Services
- Advent The four Sundays leading up to Christmas
- Lessons & Carols (6pm) Usually held on the Sunday after the Calvin L&C
- Christmas Eve (5pm) A family-friendly service that often includes drama
- Christmas Eve (11pm) Traditional candlelight service
- Christmas Day (10am) Relaxed family-friendly service with lots of carol singing
- Christmastide The services that fall within the “12 days of Christmas”
- New Year’s Eve (7pm) A service of remembrance
- Epiphany 5-7 weeks celebrating Christ’s childhood and ministry
- Lent 6 weeks of penitence leading to the cross
- Ash Wednesday (7pm) Remember our mortality, including the imposition of ashes
- Maundy Thursday (7pm) A service of the upper room that may include passover and tenebrae elements
- Good Friday (12:15pm) A short services of readings from the cross, usually with dancers
- Easter Vigil (8:30pm) Started in 2010 by Len Vander Zee, this is a service of readings, singing and meditation on the history of salvation, starting with the lighting of the Easter candle and (when there are candidates) ending in baptism.
- Eastertide 7 Sundays following Easter
- Easter evening testimony service (6pm)
- Ascension Sunday – we don’t celebrate Ascension differently than any other Sunday in Eastertide, but that’s not to say that we can’t
- Pentecost Season Pentecost Sunday, followed by two different liturgies, each used for 5-9 weeks
