Happening Today

COS is offering a Children’s Communion Class for children who wish to participate in the Lord’s Supper. It will be held in the COS living room at 11:45am this morning.

The Parish 7-8 potluck has been canceled until a future TBD date.

Are you interested in joining Church of the Servant? Beginning today, we are offering a New Member Class for 4 weeks—October 29 and November 5, 12 and 19. We will meet at 9am in the glass room (by the west entrance) with nursery and Sunday School available for the kids or they may attend with you. You will learn about COS and our shared Reformed faith and listen to others’ faith journey. You are still welcome to come! Contact Chris Klein at chris.klein@coscrc or the church office at 956-7611.

Today young adults ages 18-25 are invited to Ray and Ann Kapteyn’s house for lunch immediately after the morning service at 1824 Observatory, just a few blocks from COS. Please come for a home-cooked meal and to talk about our plans for the future! Questions? Call Ann at 426-0819.

You are invited, today October 29, at 5pm: Calvin College Chapel hymn-sing based on the 5 Solas (Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Solus Christus, Sola Scriptura, Soli Deo Gloria).  The offering will be for Baxter Community Center. Nursery will be provided.

Church News

Did you know that blood drives hosted by places of worship, companies, schools, and civic organizations supply roughly half of all blood donations across the US? Our 4 COS blood drives each year are important to our community! In two weeks we have another drive – Mon. Nov. 13, 2-7pm. Show you care! You can sign up online at miblood.org for an appointment to donate, or on the scheduling poster in the café. Questions? Contact Beth Karanicola. Thank you!

Needed:  Nursery professional for ESL, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5:45p-8:15p.  Qualifications are ease and assurance with infants and toddlers. The successful candidate will join two other professionals as the corps of ESL nursery service.  This is a paid position. Contact Mark Fackler.

 September 2017 Financial update:

September  2017   Actual

Receipts              $  110,264

Expenditures       106,322

Income (Loss)    $     3,942

Since the general fund balance was $32,274 and it has again fallen below the 40K trigger cut balance, denominational ministry shares were not paid and only a half payment of the facility reserve was transferred.

Our Children’s Ministries need a few more helpers. COS relies on over 100 volunteers to share the stories of our faith with the children of COS—and we almost have all our volunteer positions filled, except for the following:

  • 9am Pre-school/Kindergarten Sunday School Co-leader(s) – If you love Jesus, little kids, and crafts, this is a GREAT place to serve at COS! We are looking for 2 more team members to add to pre-K/K class.
  • Sunday School Subs – We have teachers for every grade (pre-school – high school) but we need a list of subs to call when our teachers can’t make it. This would likely mean helping less than once/month. If you are willing to be on our sub list, please indicate which grade(s) you prefer, pre-school – 12th All lesson materials provided.
  • Night Kids Club Assistant – We need to add 1 more member to our Kids Club team. Kids Club is a program for 4 years old – 1st graders and meets from 6:30-8pm on Wednesday nights.

Contact Annette or Andrea if you feel called to help in any of these areas.

Don’t forget the Kid’s Hats, Mittens/Gloves and Socks drive! – We will distribute these items this Saturday November 4 at the Camelot Community Building when we have the Mobile Food Truck at Camelot and again on Dec. 2 at 10 -11:30 am.
